The number of official Royal Wedding street parties in the United Kingdom will top 5,500, the Local Government Association has revealed. Councils have received a late surge of applications for road closures, with some 1,500 requests in the past three weeks.

Congratulation Books Open

People across Wales are being given the chance to leave messages in "Congratulation Books" for Prince William and Kate Middleton.

More here and here. This announcement came as it was revealed that there would be at least 250 street parties in The Principality of Wales alone - with over 50 in Cardiff. Even the pressure group Republic, which campaigns for an elected head of state, will be holding a street party in Cardiff. More about that party here.

Newport Street Party

Newport is set to spend a whole week celebrating Prince William's marriage to Kate Middleton next month, with seven days of events and activities kicking off from April 29th. For Newport Council is holding "A Royalty Week" from April 29th to May 6th. Events will include shopping promotions in the city centre throughout the week, and a day of traditional entertainment to mark our future King's Wedding in John Frost Square on April 30th. Balloons, banners and bunting will adorn an estate in Rhymney as the community comes together to celebrate The Royal Wedding. For "a classic British tea party" will be held at Tredomen, as the pomp and pageantry of the big day goes into high gear. Tenby To Celebrate

Tenby Town Council has been looking at ideas as to how to celebrate The Royal Wedding next month and one councillor has suggested a way that local school children can remember the occasion. At Tuesday night's meeting of the council, Councillor David Morgan said that he had looked into costings of providing pupils in Tenby with "commemorative earthenware mugs" that would have a picture on one side of the Royal couple, Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton. "I think it's a fabulous idea and a great way to involve the children and remind them of the occasion," said The Mayor, Councillor Julie Evans. Details.

Cardiff is leading the way as more than 100 streets across Wales plan parties to mark The Royal Wedding on April 29th. Thirty applications have been made in Cardiff so far, more than any other area outside London. The deadline for applying has already passed in some local authorities, but a few are open for inquiries. Details.

Flintshire Street Party

Picnic In The Park event is being planned for Higher Shotton in Flintshire. Carol Horley, who has lived in Shotton for forty years, has helped organise other events for special Royal occasions. "We had street parties for the Queen's Silver Jubilee and the Wedding of Charles and Diana," she said. "This will be a very fun day for all the family and a chance for the community to get together. Everyone is welcome." Sealand in Flintshire is also organising a street party gathering at the play area in Riverside Park. Secretary Ella Ellis is hoping about fifty children and their families will join in with the event. She said: "I am really looking forward to it. It is a great chance to celebrate and get to know all your neighbours."

Children at the Busy Bees Nursery in Ewloe will take part in "a mock ceremony" with all the trimmings including a Wedding cake and cars thanks to the support of local businesses. Staff nurse Sarah Ramsay said everyone was looking forward to the event. Catherine Middleton is the inspiration behind two new Mr Men books which are to be published in the next few weeks. 'Little Miss Princess' (the 34th book in the popular series) will go on sale today and 'Little Miss Princess and The Very Special Wedding' colouring and sticker storybook shall be in stores from Monday 4th April.

The Princess even has her toothpaste squeezed onto her toothbrush.

Adam Hargreaves, whose father Roger created the Mr Men books, said of the Princess: "She lives in a Palace surrounded by servants who do everything for her, but she feels bad about this and she goes out to help people. The humour derives from showing her trying to do practical things for Mr Bump, who is housebound after breaking his leg. She is incapable because she has never had to do anything for herself." A kind-hearted volunteer who was honoured by meeting The Queen is now helping to organise a street party for The Royal Wedding. Nora Williams, aged 67, of Thomas Street in Flint, and also the residents in the surrounding area, will be hosting the family-friendly event in honour of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29th. Nora, a former manager at a seafood factory in Greenfield, is looking to bolster community spirit after she spoke to Her Majesty The Queen as a reward for her tireless work running after-school clubs and litter picks. However, that was the job of Royal National Lifeboat Institution volunteers when the pair agreed to launch a new lifeboat near to their Anglesey cottage on February 24th. Dulcie Massey, of Maes Cibyn in Abermorddu, came up with the idea for the celebration having organised a street party for the Jubilee celebrations in 1977. Mrs Massey, aged 70, also hopes to bring a bit of history to the event, by bringing out the paper plates from her 1977 celebration. More.

An Anglesey man has cooked up a delicious engagement gift for the Island's very own Royal couple. Benjamin Lee, aged 34, who owns Y Becws Mefus in Llangefni, has made a luxury chocolate cake to mark Prince William and Kate Middleton's engagement. Benjamin said: "I thought it would be a nice gesture from the people of Anglesey. I think they have a difficult job to come and they are the new generation. A group of children in north Wales have received Royal thanks for their loyal message of congratulations to Prince William and Kate Middleton on their recent engagement. Shirley Mosley who wrote to Buckingham Palace on their behalf said everyone involved had just been delighted to receive the Royal reply.
